GARP SCR April 2025 Exam: What to Expect on Test Day

The April 2025 Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) exam window runs from April 19 to May 3, 2025, and for many candidates, it will be the culmination of months of study and preparation. Knowing what to expect on test day can eliminate unnecessary stress and help you perform at your best.

Here’s a complete overview of what to expect, based on the GARP SCR Candidate Guide 2025 and current Pearson VUE exam procedures. GARP SCR April 2025 Exam , GARP SCR EXam

1. Your Test Format: What You’re Walking Into GARP SCR April 2025 Exam , GARP SCR EXam

The SCR Exam is delivered in-person at Pearson VUE test centers around the world. Online remote testing is not currently available. The exam is computer-based and administered under strict supervision.

Exam Structure:

  • 90 multiple-choice questions

  • 2 real-world case studies (with multi-part questions)

  • 4-hour time limit

  • No scheduled breaks during the exam

  • Equally weighted questions

The exam is conducted in English only, and you are not permitted to bring study materials or calculators.

2. Test Day Logistics: What to Bring and When to Arrive

To sit for the exam, you must present a valid government-issued photo ID that exactly matches the name used for exam registration. GARP recommends arriving at least 30 minutes early to allow for check-in procedures.

Bring:

  • Valid ID (passport, driver’s license, or national ID)

  • Confirmation email or appointment details (optional but useful)

Do NOT bring:

  • Study notes or books

  • Smart devices (phones, watches)

  • Food or drink (unless medically necessary and approved)

3. Security and Check-In Procedures

Pearson VUE follows strict test security protocols:

  • Identity verification

  • Electronic signature

  • Photo capture

  • Locker assignment for personal belongings

You may be required to undergo a visual inspection or metal detection process. Once seated, your computer session will begin, and your time will start as soon as you launch the exam.

4. Test Environment Expectations

The testing room is monitored by proctors and video surveillance. Talking, disrupting others, or leaving your seat without permission can result in disqualification.

Your exam interface will include:

  • A timer

  • Flag option to mark questions for review

  • Navigation panel for quick access to questions

You’ll also receive either digital or laminated scratch paper and a marker to make notes during the exam.

5. Time Management Tips

With 90 questions and 240 minutes, you’ll have roughly 2.5 minutes per question. Allocate time wisely:

  • Spend the first 5 minutes reviewing instructions

  • Use 3 hours on the first 70–75 questions

  • Reserve 1 hour for the two case studies (each includes 4–6 multipart questions)

Use the “flag” function to skip and return to time-consuming questions later.

6. Case Study Questions: Format and Strategy

Two case studies will test how well you apply the SCR curriculum to real-world climate risk and sustainability challenges. These questions draw from across the curriculum but especially Chapters 6–10, including:

  • TCFD/IFRS-aligned disclosures

  • Transition planning and carbon reporting

  • Nature and biodiversity risk assessments

  • Net-zero target credibility

Strategy:

  • Skim the case text to get a general idea

  • Read questions before re-reading the case details

  • Watch for keywords in the scenario (e.g., transition risks, stranded assets, Scope 3 emissions)

7. After the Exam: What Happens Next

Your results will not be shown immediately after the exam. Instead, GARP will notify you via email approximately 6–8 weeks after the exam window closes. The results will simply state “Pass” or “Did Not Pass”—numerical scores are not disclosed.

If you pass, you'll receive a digital badge and access to your SCR certificate. If you do not pass, GARP offers a retake for USD 350, valid within the next two exam cycles.

8. Emergency and Deferral Policies

If you encounter a personal emergency or need to reschedule your exam before test day, GARP’s policies are as follows:

  • Deferral Deadline for April 2025: April 1, 2025

  • Deferral Fee: USD 150

Emergency deferral requests after this date require documentation and GARP approval.

9. What to Expect Emotionally

The SCR exam is comprehensive and demanding, and it's normal to feel pressure. You may encounter a few questions that seem unfamiliar or ambiguous. Don’t panic:

  • Trust your preparation

  • Use logic to eliminate wrong choices

  • Focus on managing your energy and pacing

Remember: the October 2024 SCR exam pass rate was 66%—so most candidates who prepare well succeed.
